Hypnotic Childbirth is an original five-week hybrid course offered through Bellingham Technical College twice a quarter for $149, designed to reduce fear of the birthing process.

Mental preparation is crucial for an optimal labor and birth! No matter where you choose to give birth and what interventions you may or may not want, learning these skills will vastly improve your experience:

  1. Relaxation: Reducing tension reduces pain. Learn many different techniques to relax your mind and body and elicit the parasympathetic nervous system response – essential for optimal reproductive functioning.
  2. Visualization: Where the mind goes, the body follows. Find out how to use your imagination to create changes in your body. Practice ego-strengthening skills as well as pain management techniques and mental rehearsal.
  3. Overcoming Obstacles: Reducing inner conflict makes external circumstances that much easier to navigate. Discover and overcome obstacles before your labor, using techniques such as Parts Therapy, Regression, and Gestalt Therapy to improve your sense of strength and confidence.

Hypnosis has been proven to reduce the length of labor and hospital stay, the need for pain medication and interventions, and the rates of postpartum depression.

The hybrid forum allows for self-paced learning while still connecting with others. In the comfort of your own home and on your own schedule, you can access information, articles, exercises, audio recordings, discussion forums, homework assignments, and further resources to prepare yourself for one of the most incredible experiences of your life – and beyond!

Individual sessions are available for those who prefer one-on-one facilitation. I gave birth to my own babies at home in 2002 and 2004, and they were transformational and empowering experiences. I am grateful to be able to help others on their own birthing journey.
